The employees of the Coast Guard Department of MIA Border Police participated in the Multinational Maritime Exercise – Phoenix Express 2024, organized by the United States Naval Forces Europe and Africa (NAVEUR).
The Maritime Exercise, which lasted for two weeks, took place in the city Bizerte and La Goulette of the Republic of Tunisia, in the Mediterranean Sea.
20 Employees of the Coast Guard Department, including members from the Law Enforcement Tactical Team, as well as Divers, Small Boat Operators and staff officers designated for the exercise, participated in the above-mentioned Maritime Exercise.
The participation of the Georgian side in the Exercise was implemented through the coordination and support of the Office of the Defense Cooperation (ODC) of the U.S. Embassy in Georgia.
Upon the completion of the Exercise, the personnel of the Georgian Coast Guard Department were awarded with certificates of participation. In addition, 5 of the Georgian Participants were rewarded with the Insignia of the Maritime Forces of the Republic of Tunisia. This marks the first time Georgia took part in the exercise.
Representatives of 37 countries and International Organizations participated in this exercise. The exercise aimed to evaluate the capabilities of the Maritime Forces of the United States of America and Partner Countries, to enhance cooperation and share expertise in maritime security operations.
