BORDER POLICE MISSION

Our mission is to protect the state border of Georgia, the boundary line, the border zone and the Georgian maritime space, according the legislation of Georgia, to ensure the security of the country and the population.


BORDER POLICE OBJECTIVES

  • Protection of the state border of Georgia, together with other state agencies protection of the territorial integrity of the country, inviolability of the state border, security of the state, citizens and their property;

  • Prevention, detection and suppression of illegal actions, according the Georgian legislation, at the state border of Georgia, at the boundary line, in the border zone, in the Georgian maritime space and the vessels under the Georgian jurisdiction;

  • Prevention and suppression of incidents, military or other types of aggression, terrorist acts at the border;

  • Inspection of foreign nationals, ensuring compliance with other requirements of the legislation on Migration and the Legal Status of Foreign Nationals;

  • Carrying out rescue operations at sea, at the boundary line and in the border zone,  area and the zone, in specific cases, to save human life and property, throughout Georgian territory;

  • Within the competence, ensuring the enforcement of the Georgian legislation and the fulfilment of international obligations at the Georgian state land border, in the maritime space, at the ports and on the ships under the Georgian jurisdiction;

  • Cooperation with relevant state agencies, foreign border authorities and international organisations to resolve border-related issues and participate in international negotiations relevant to border security;

  • Participation in the marine environment and natural resource protection activities;

  • Ensuring the observance of the rules established by the Georgian legislation and the norms of international maritime law on the extraction of biological resources and conducting scientific research in the Georgian maritime space;

  • Ensuring protection and security of Georgian ports;

  • Protection of its sovereign rights in the Georgian maritime space, ensuring the safety of ships and boats and the observance of the navigation rules;

  • Prevention, detection and suppression of trafficking, smuggling, including drugs, weapons, explosives and weapons of mass destruction in the state border, boundary line, border zone and maritime space of Georgia;

  • Within the competence, carrying out operative-investigative activities at the state border of Georgia, boundary line, border zone and in the maritime space to ensure crime detection and prevention. Conducting a preliminary investigation of criminal cases per Criminal Procedure Code of Georgia, as well as administrative proceedings;

  • Participation in the drafting legislative acts related to the protection and control of the state border, boundary line, border zone and maritime space of Georgia;

  • Development of relevant concepts to further develop Border Police and improve the agency activities;

  • Gathering information on risks and threats at the state border of Georgia, boundary line, in the border zone and maritime space. Studying, analysing and developing appropriate response mechanisms, informing the relevant authorised state bodies, if necessary;

  • Within the competence, ensuring the protection of information containing State secrets;

  • Providing organizational and technical support to the Joint Maritime Operations Centre (hereinafter, the Joint Maritime Operations Centre) of the Executive Bodies of Georgia related to the protection of the legal regime of the Georgian maritime space;

  • Perform other tasks imposed by law.
