The MIA Border Police Coast Guard Department patrol boat SOKHUMI and the Royal Navy Ship HMS Defender participated in the joint maritime exercise in the Georgian territorial waters.

The exercise was carried out in several stages and included various elements such as monitoring the movement of civilian ships, locating and surveying the suspected ship, imitating the towing of a damaged vessel, and naval maneuvers.

During the joint exercise, the British colleagues shared their experiences with their Georgian counterparts. The training also aimed to improve GCG capabilities and increase the interoperability between two naval units.

The maritime exercise was held as part of the Royal Navy Daring-Class Air-Defence Destroyer HMS Defender’s visit in Georgia. The ship arrived in Batumi port on June 26. The visit demonstrates the close cooperation between the United Kingdom and Georgia in the defence and security field.
