Based on operational information, employees of the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in cooperation with the Patrol Police Department's Main Division for Border Management and Coordination, as well as the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance, conducted joint operational and investigative activities resulting in the arrest of a foreign citizen—born in 1978, identified as K.K.—for the illegal purchase and possession, and illegal import into Georgia, of a particularly large quantity of psychotropic substances.
The crime envisages the imprisonment from 8 years up to 12 years..
The investigation revealed, that the accused person, entered Georgia from the Republic of Turkey through the check point “Sarphi”. The law enforcement servicemen inspected the accused person and as a result of evidence, seized 227 capsules of the psychotropic replacement medicine “Lyrica”.
The investigation is ongoing under Article 261, Part 3, Subparagraph "a" and Article 263, Part 3, Subparagraph "a" of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
