Briefing of the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs – Aleksandre Darakhvelidze
The employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, arrested the person - D.Kh. (DoB 1974) wanted for the attempted murder of Givi Targamadze, former member of the Georgian Parliament.
He crossed the state border of Georgia through the so called green border.
On September 19, 2024, on the Turkish-Georgian border, a person who illegally crossed the state border of Georgia was detected by the technical means of observation installed at Kartsakhi border section of the Border Police.
Border police officers stopped him for inspection. The mentioned person entered the Georgian territory from the Republic of Turkey.
Investigation into the fact of illegal crossing of the state border was launched by the Border Police officers under the Article 344, I part of the Criminal Code of Georgia.
The person who was stopped at the border did not have any documents confirming his identity, therefore, he was transferred by the border guards to the administrative unit of the border sector for identification purposes.
In order to mislead Border Police officers, D.Kh. instead of naming his own first and last name, used another name and surname.
Within the frames of the investigation, Border Police officers, made an initial identification of the mentioned individual, and according to the information received through MIA databases, it was determined that the person stopped at the border is D.Kh - wanted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia since 2016, and Interpol since 2017 in accordance with Articles 236 and 187.
Herewith, within the framework of the investigation, a habitoscopic examination was appointed and conducted for the person stopped at the border, also confirming that the person stopped at the border sector "Kartsakhi" on September 19, is in deed D. Kh.
Based on the verdict of Tbilisi City Court of March 22, 2019, D.Kh was arrested as a convict and transferred to a penitentiary facility by border police officers.
We would like to note that D.Kh. was found guilty by Tbilisi City Court for the attempted murder committed under aggravating circumstances, as well as illegal acquisition, storage, carrying and selling of firearms, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices, as well as for damage and destruction of other’s property, and was sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment.
Herewith, I would also like to inform public that the investigation into the case of the attempted murder of Givi Targamadze is in progress at Tbilisi Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in order to identify and arrest others involved in the committed crime.
