The Law Enforcement Tactical Team of the Coast Guard Department of the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia has participated, for the fifth time, in NATO’s maritime security operation Operation Sea Guardian, which was conducted in the Hellenic Republic (Greece).

As part of the operation, 12 members of the Georgian Coast Guard boarding team were deployed aboard the Hellenic Navy frigate HS NIKIFOROS FOKAS (F 466). Together with members of the Hellenic Special Forces, representatives of the Coast Guard Department took part in joint training activities, including Close Quarters Battle (CQB) exercises and live-fire tactical training. In addition, search and rescue (SAR) and evacuation operations were conducted jointly with the frigate’s crew.

NATO’s Operation Sea Guardian is currently the Alliance’s only standing maritime security operation. Its primary objectives are to counter terrorism in the maritime domain, promote safe and secure freedom of navigation at sea, develop and strengthen maritime security capabilities, and enhance maritime situational awareness within the area of operations. The operation also facilitates information collection and sharing, while fostering cooperation with Allied and partner nations.
