THE MINISTER OF INTERNAL AFFAIRS OF GEORGIA, GEKA GELADZE, HELD A MEETING OF THE INTERAGENCY COUNCIL ON MARITIME SECURITY

Under the leadership of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Geka Geladze, a meeting of the Interagency Council on Maritime Security was held at the Joint Maritime Operations Centre.

During the meeting, the activities of the Joint Maritime Operations Centre (JMOC), the current situation in the Black Sea, as well as security issues and risks were discussed.

The members of the Council discussed the challenges facing Georgia in light of recent developments around the world. They also identified the priorities of the Joint Maritime Operations Centre and discussed future plans. In addition, the regulations of the Council meeting and other issues on the agenda were approved.

The meeting was attended by the deputy ministers of the relevant agencies and the heads of their respective units, including: First Deputy Head of the State Security Service of Georgia, Lasha Maghradze; Deputy Minister of Defence of Georgia, Grigol Giorgadze; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Lasha Darsalia; Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, Solomon Pavliashvili; and Head of the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Davit Tamazashvili.

The Joint Maritime Operations Centre is a unique concept for ensuring maritime and border security and serves an important strategic and operational purpose. The Interagency Council coordinates the activities of this Centre.

The Council is chaired by the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia and includes the following agencies of the Border Police, the State Security Service, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, and the Ministry of Finance.

Following the meeting of the Interagency Council on Maritime Security, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Geka Geladze, and members of the Council visited the infrastructure and Coast Guard vessels at the Poti Coast Guard Base.

Geka Geladze expressed his gratitude to the Border Police officers for their service to the country.
