11 members of the Law Enforcement Tactical Groups of the Coast Guard Department of MIA Border Police participated in the NATO Maritime Operation "Sea Guardian".

On November 21, 2025, a technical agreement was signed between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and the General Staff of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Türkiye, within the framework of which, upon the invitation of the Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Türkiye, the Boarding Group of the Coast Guard Department of the Georgian Border Police obtained the right to participate in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Maritime Security Operation “Sea Guardian".

The Maritime Security Operation (Sea Guardian 26-1) was conducted, from January 21 to February 9, of this year. During the operation, 11 service members of the Georgian Coast Guard Tactical Group were stationed on the frigate of the Republic of Turkey Navy named "TCG Gaziante (F-490)", where they participated in a joint exercise with members of the Navy Special Operations Forces of of the Republic of Türkiye.

NATO's Operation “Sea Guardian” is the only permanent Maritime Security Operation, currently, operating under the auspices of the Alliance. The main tasks of the operation are: combat terrorism in maritime space, promote free and safe navigation, develop and strengthen maritime security capabilities, and raise awareness of the maritime situation in the operational area. In addition, the operation provides for the collection and sharing of information, as well as cooperation with allied and partner countries.
