The Head of the MIA Border Police of Georgia, Davit Tamazashvili, met with the Ambassador of the Republic of Turkiye to Georgia, his excellency Ali Kaan Orbay, and the Defense Attaché of the Republic of Turkiye to Georgia, Colonel İlhan Oktendural.

During the meeting, Davit Tamazashvili and Colonel İlhan Oktendural signed a technical arrangement (TA) Between The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia and The Ministry of National defense of the Republic of Turkiye regarding the participation of Coast Guard personnel on Board Turkish Navy ships during NATO maritime security operations “operations Sea Guardian - OSG”.

The purpose of the agreement is to regulate the bilateral obligations related to the embarkation, accomodation, duties, and responsibilities of the tactical unit of the Coast Guard Department of the Border Police on Turkish naval vessels within the framework of NATO’s maritime operation Sea Guardian (OSG).

It is noteworthy that Turkiye is the second country to express readiness, within the NATO operation, to host the tactical unit of the Georgian Border Police Coast Guard on its naval vessels.

It is also important to note that in May 2022, the North Atlantic Alliance granted Georgia Operational Partner status in the Sea Guardian (OSG) maritime operation. Georgia is the first non-NATO country to receive this status following the successful completion of the required certification by its relevant units. Based on this decision, Georgia became authorized to provide support to the Alliance in the field of maritime security
