Meeting held at the Coast Guard Department with the members of the Defense and Security Committee of the Parliament

Within the parliamentary oversight, Irakli Sesiashvili, the Chairman of the Defense and Security Committee of the Parliament of Georgia alongside the members of the committee held a working meeting with the Coast Guard Department of the MIA Border Police of Georgia.
The parties discussed the maritime cooperation between NATO and Georgia and further intensifying existing relations between the NATO Naval Forces and the Georgian Coast Guard. The Border Police representatives and the members of the Parliament also touched upon safeguarding issues and security challenges in the Black Sea Region.
The Head of the MIA Border Police, Mr. Temur Kekelidze and the Director of the Coast Guard Department, CAPT. Temur Kvantaliani introduced the Action Plan of the Center to the MPs. The visitors have also received detailed information on the reforms that are being implemented for Coast guard capacity building.
The MPs also visited the Joint Maritime Operation Centre (JMOC) and the Poti Base of the Coast Guard Department of the MIA Border Police of Georgia. They were shown the technical specifics and operational capabilities of the vessels “Ochamchire” and “Dioskuria” and attended the boarding demo exercise at sea.
It should be outline that the members of the Defense and Security Committee of the Parliament of Georgia have estimated the ongoing projects of the Georgian Coast Guard positively.
